The up and coming resort of Kolimbari is 25 kms west of Chania. For many years this was a sleepy fishing village, but it is now being transformed. There is a new marina, public gardens and many popular tavernas serving excellent fresh fish and traditional Cretan dishes, as well as one or two sophisticated bars and restaurants. Good local amenities include a post office, bank and large supermarket. The long sand and pebble beach stretches all the way to Chania in the east.
