Every year thousands of tourists visit the famous Samaria gorge. The beauty of Crete extends to the underwater area as well and invites exploration, which inspired us to set up a diving center on the south coast of Crete. The rough and wild landscape of Crete finds its continuation under water. Gorges, caves and rocks, sometimes reaching down to 75 meters are nothing unusual.

The large number of species is highly impressive. Groupers, morays, sliperlobsters and barracudas as well as many other sea inhabitants can be admired. In cooperation with our guests we try to organize and structure diving excursions which respect the marine fauna and flora. Our local area is well known for its crystal clear waters with a visibility of up to 40 meters. The depths are between 10 and 40 meters.

The diving centre is situated in the village Chora Sfakion, in the province of Sfakia, where the courses and the briefings will take place. Trainings and diving courses for children will be held in Illingas, a beautiful shingle beach very close to Chora Sfakion. Experienced divers won’t come off badly either. They can explore the fascinating rugged and fissured underwater area there.

We have chosen this bay for our activities because it is very quiet and protected. The water conditions there are ideal and the location belongs to those places in the Mediterranean Sea which show a very high level of cleanness.There is only one small hotel on this beach, hotel Illingas. The tavern of this hotel will offer relaxation and rest after the eventful diving excursions.

SNORKELING

In the morning each participant receives the complete equipment (mask, snorkel, fins and diving suit). Everything concerning the equipment as well as the technique of snorkeling will be explained and demonstrated on the beach. Afterwards a guided tour in the bay of Illingas will be offered. The equipment can of course be used all day long.

Many guests usually use the rest of the day to go individually (but always accompanied) to those places which they liked best during the tour. This program is ideal for the whole family as it promises a lot of fun regardless of age. On request we can either arrange a second tour in the afternoon or introduce the participants to the technique of skin diving, which is diving with weights but without scuba tank. Skin diving is a fascinating alternative for children younger than 12 years

SNORKELING and DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING

After the snorkeling program and a following short break the course for all divers will start and it will be held directly on the beach. During this course the most important rules for diving with equipment will be explained and demonstrated. Afterwards the guests can get ready for the start. The diving instructors will help them with the adjustment of the equipment and then a memorable and unique adventure can start: diving into another world, floating and forgetting everything around …

CERTIFIED DIVERS

We offer unique, memorable diving excursions to the fascinating underwater world of the Libyan Sea. If the divers have no gear of their own, they can rent it on a daily basis at our diving centre. Scuba tank, weights and an accompanying diver are included in the price. Two diving tours per day are possible. The first tours will always start from the beach, the later ones can also be boat dives.

DEEP DIVES

Divers who don’t want to see the rocks from above only will find the opportunity to go to a maximum depth of 40-50 meters, provided that they can prove some experience with depths of that extent.

NIGHT DIVES

Watching animals at night will offer different impressions from watching them during the day. Therefore night dives will be great fun for those who like adventures.

CAVE DIVES

Caves and gorges are always fascinating for divers. During this program you will see caves which are partly under water and thus can only be discovered on diving tours.

DIVING EXCURSIONS

On special request we will offer excursions to the islands Gavdos and Gavdopoula. They are at a distance of 19sm from the coast. If the weather is fine, they can be reached within 1.5 hours. Members of the family or other accompanying persons can of course join the tour. We can also arrange camping and barbecues on lonely beaches.

Dives are organized according to the guidelines of the PADI organization and all activities show regard and respect for the underwater environment. The team is international. In addition to Greek,German English and French are spoken. Although dives take place in an informal and relaxed atmosphere the safety and well-being of the guests always comes first.
